The Class 158 "Express Sprinter" is a diesel multiple-unit built for British Rail between 1989 and 1992 by BREL to replace locomotive-hauled passengers and to allow other members of the Sprinter family to be cascaded, allowing the withdrawal of elderly first-generation DMUs. 182 sets were constructed, with 30 converted to Class 159s.

For Train Simulator, a Class 158 was developed by Ben Laws and released on Steam in four liveries, with his Northern and Regional Railways variants recycled in the Settle to Carlisle and Manchester - Liverpool routes respectively.
